The Ewen Bridge project was a massive undertaking and involved the redesign of all the surrounding roads as well as the landscaping of the river banks. The Archives holds a large amount of information from early discussions to contracts for the work itself. This image was one of the early proposals for the bridge alignment and obviously never went ahead (perhaps just as well!).
Because of the lack of space in the Archives repository we can’t keep everything and usually documents about a proposal or tender aren’t kept with priority given to finalised projects. However, as this project was so important to the City it has been kept as an example of the different ideas suggested at the time. Daly Street and Marsden Street would have been unrecognisable.
