The Comet - Hutt Central School’s Magazine

Comet coverAs well as the Council’s own records, the Archive holds the records of a number of local schools.

Schools include: Hutt Valley High School, Sacred Heart College, Petone Central School, Petone West School, and Hutt Central School. There is also material amongst the Council records which relates to schools too.

The featured archive is a school magazine - The Comet, December 1931 - from Hutt Central School. It includes a list of staff and school captains, those awarded their proficiency examination and work by pupils. Amongst the latter is this description of the Hutt Valley by May Miller of Form II:

“In this natural Paradise, Man has not been idle. He has accepted the gifts of Nature’s handiwork, and thousands of beautiful homes have sprung up in the last few years and every here and there over the floor of the wide valley the land is laid out in wonderful parks, of these the pretties is perhaps Riddiford Park. In the summertime the rich flower masses placed in a setting of croquet lawns at their greenest and bordering every path with glowing banks of colour is a sight worth going far to see.”
