Cars Outside the Stokes Valley Shopping Centre, 1950s

This is just a great photograph - you can imagine the young man loitering on the corner with his cigarette envying the cars!

The good news is that it's actually part of a larger series of 65 photographs which were probably taken for the City of Lower Hutt’s 75th Jubilee in 1966. Any of the photographs could have been included here and it was difficult to make a choice. They depict a number of the schools in the area, such as St Bernards College and Puketiro School; businesses such as Ford Motor Company and Todd Motors; the old Lower Hutt Transport Centre; Hutt Recreation Ground; and many more. A real trip down memory lane!
