City Valuer’s Field Book

The Lower Hutt City Valuation Department field books - of which HCC Archives holds 596 - are a wonderful source of summary information between 1945-1986 on just about every house in the old Lower Hutt City Council Boundary area.

Typical entires include: who owned the house over time; building permits issued; build dates; how much it was worth each year; and even a little plan of the lay-out of the rooms.

We've gone through every single book and entering all the street addresses on to our database - so it will be even easier to find your property. We wouldn’t even be able to think about doing it if it wasn’t for the dedicated volunteers from the Hutt Valley Genealogical Society.

If your house is in lower Hutt, and is older than 1986 we’ll almost certainly have an entry for it.
