• How long have you worked at HCC?

 
Since November 2004.

 

• What attracted you to the role?


Having been in the building industry for over thirty years I was looking for a new challenge. The opportunity to become a building inspections officer meant I could use my building knowledge and retrain in a field I had an understanding of. It also allowed me to take on a job that provided regular hours, thus allowing me more family time.

 

• Things about the job that you enjoy the most…


The hours of work being Monday to Friday. The team environment I work in. The people contact and helping to ensure that the buildings that people live and work in are safe.

 

• What is your view of the main benefits of working at HCC / in Lower Hutt?


The job security provided by working for a large council. Training opportunities and the prospects of promotion.

 

• What skills & attributes do you think someone will need to do your job?


Good oral and written skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to further your knowledge by way of training.
