Colin - Senior Contracts Officer (Road and Traffic)


• How long have you worked at HCC?


I started my Career with Lower Hutt City Council as a gardener way back in 1987. 

I was employed by HCC as a contracts officer in July 2000. I left in 2005 and worked for Taupo District Council as Parks operations manager for two years. I was re-employed in a senior contracts officer role with Road and Traffic division, May 2007.

 

• What attracted you to the role?


Most of the staff at Hutt City Council are excellent. HCC has a great, friendly team environment, good work systems in place and offers great support from senior management. There are great opportunities for advancement if you are keen to put the effort in.

 

• Things about the job that you enjoy the most…


I enjoy working in a friendly, happy team.  I enjoy making a difference to the way our city is maintained, giving great customer service and also playing a part in the future vision for our city.

 

• What is your view of the main benefits of working at HCC / in Lower Hutt?


The HCC has a Great team environment.  Staff that put the extra effort in are encouraged and recognised.  Good chances for advancement within the organisation. Staff are treated with respect!

 

• What skills & attributes do you think someone will need to do your job?


For my job you need to have really good administration & organisation skills.  Be willing to help and prepared to listen, a really good understanding of maintenance. Be proactive and be able to handle busy work loads (at times). It also helps to have the ability to communicate with all different types and personalities within the local community.
