• How long have you worked at HCC?


I have been employed by Hutt City Council, Secretariat Services for almost 2 years.

 

• What attracted you to the role?


I contacted Hutt City Council as I was interested in obtaining a job where there was flexibility, as I have three children, being able to utilise my minute taking skills, and something not too far from home.

 

• What does your job involve – day to day things?


Communicating with Councillors, Community and Committee members.  Preparing agendas and attending meetings.  Taking the minutes and also working along side the Chair to ensure Standing Orders are followed in the running of meetings.  Working within Council with different Departments and liasing with them for information.  Meeting deadlines that can sometimes have short time frames.

 

• Things about the job that you enjoy the most…


Taking minutes at meetings, communicating with all levels of personnel.  Flexibility, being a part of a great team in Secretariat Services.   Having the support from team members.

 

• What is your view of the main benefits of working at HCC / in Lower Hutt?


Very interesting work, welcoming environment, challenging people, many benefits for staff eg. subsidised holiday programmes, discounted gym memberships, free pool entrance.

 

• What skills & attributes do you think someone will need to do your job?


Being able to communicate with all types of people.  Having a positive attitude.  Experience in minute taking.  Detail and accuracy are also important in the role.  Being able to cope under pressure to meet deadlines.
