Hutt City Council

Sean - Environmental Policy Analyst (Environmental Consents Division)

• How long have you worked at HCC?

Since November 2007.

• What attracted you to the role?

Hutt City is the second largest local authority in the Wellington Region. It offers a huge number of unique landscapes and urban challenges to Environmental Policy makers. Hutt City as an organisation is committed to providing us with the advanced resources and support to meet those challenges in new and innovative ways.

• Things about the job that you enjoy the most…

I enjoy the variety and the challenge. One day I can be drafting responses to national policy statements, the next plan change provisions and then working with mapping software and demographics to analyse the consequences of our environmental actions. Throughout Hutt City provides both the tools and great stuff in all divisions to help us get our business done.

• What is your view of the main benefits of working at HCC / in Lower Hutt?

Hutt City is located in the Wellington Region - New Zealand’s most innovative urban planning region. We have government access to both colleagues in local government and policy makers in the central government. Hutt City also offers a wide range of recreational opportunities.

• What skills & attributes do you think someone will need to do your job?

Policy Analysts need an inquisitive outlook with a strategic drive. The work we do is varied and it can be difficult. We need to know how to investigate an issue, communicate it with others and find solutions. All the while we need to be aware of both time and what others are doing as well.
