Jane - Human Resource Advisor (Human Resource Division)

• How long have you worked at HCC?

Since October 2006.

 • What attracted you to the role?

Diversity and variety of the role.  Ability to work in Lower Hutt.  I was attracted to the scope of the role and the opportunity that it offered.  The opportunity to work for a complex organisation that makes a difference.

• What does your job involve – day to day things?

Dealing with managers, staff, providing advice to employees and managers, liaising with internal people within Council, taking calls from members of the public re recruitment, providing advice in relation to remuneration, employee issues etc.

• Things about the job that you enjoy the most…

People that work at the Council, and the variety of the role.  Being able to deal with people in different areas of the Council.  The diversity that Council offers.  Ability to have a good work life balance.  Opportunities to get involved on several projects and working with people throughout all levels of the organisation.

• What is your view of the main benefits of working at HCC / in Lower Hutt?

Hutt City Council offers fantastic benefits including easy parking and an easy commute.  It is great having facilities close by (gym/pools).  Close enough if you have to go into Wellington CBD for meetings.  Understanding the major impact that Council has with the wider community.

• What skills & attributes do you think someone will need to do your job?

Enthusiasm, flexibility, able to work under pressure, keep a cool head, able to multitask and have several projects running at the same time.
