The Hutt Valley has fantastic native bush areas to explore, kilometres of coastline and the Hutt River, all offering a wealth of outdoor recreation adventures (fishing, canoeing and jetboating)! If you are a thrill seeking mountain biker, horse rider, birdwatcher, or simply want to enjoy a leisurely stroll in the bush, the Hutt Valley is the place, with its easy access from downtown Lower Hutt. The area also offers golf enthusiasts the chance to play a round of golf at one of six courses.
To the north the city extends up the Hutt Valley along the banks of the Hutt River from Petone to Stokes Valley including Belmont Regional Park to the West.
To the east Lower Hutt encompasses Wainuiomata, Eastbourne and the native bush wilderness area of Rimutaka Forest Park. At the southern extremities is the rugged and unspoilt beauty of Pencarrow and Baring heads, and the East Harbour Regional Park.
