Jim's report contains historical photographs and addresses the issue of why there are more stones at the eastern end of the beach and the role of beach grooming.
Petone beach is slowly growing because of a good sand supply from the Hutt River. Low spinifex and pingao dunes along the Petone foreshore should be an achievable way to provide a natural buffer against the effects of sea level rise. Community input is vital to make this happen.
