Wellington Public Meeting 16th November 2007
What are the issues/challenges the beaches face?
- Litter traps (why not!) on stormwater drains entering harbour.
- Beach grooming has a number of negative impacts especially on biodiversity values of the beach.
- Beach grooming should be seriously looked at and reduced!
- Beach grooming – is it really needed? Not only collects sand but provides free play opportunities for children.
- Litter if a problem.
- Need to read the Regional Coastal Policy – new version - Feb 2007
What do you value about your beach?
Natural remnants of native plants are present – giving the beaches a natural character.
What would you like to see achieved at your beach?
- Korokoro end – Tetragonia tetragenous could enhance some areas with other appropriate species.
- Removal of Boneseed from beach south of Burdans Gate.
- Opportunities for dune slacks behind the dunes at Hutt River end.
