Hutt City Council

Hutt City Central Area District Plan Review

In conjunction with the CBD Vision 2030 project and CBD Making Places project, a review of the District Plan provisions relating central area is also being undertaken. This review primarily focuses on the existing District Plan chapter currently known as the Central Commercial Activity Area.

As part of the preliminary stages of this review, a Discussion Document has been prepared. The document concentrates on the issues that can be addressed by the Hutt City District Plan recognising that there are other processes and methods that can be used to influence the future of the Central Area too, including those issues raised in the CBD Vision process.

Other parts of the District Plan that address other areas of the city will also be reviewed in time - this document only addresses the Central Area.

The purpose of the Discussion Document is to describe the Council’s understanding of issues facing the Central Area and the options to address these through the District Plan. The aim is to set a District Plan platform for the next 10 years that will provide direction to the community, landowners, investors and other stakeholders as to how Council manages the Central Area to provide opportunities for growth as well as the quality and types of growth that will benefit the city in the long term.

Public consultation on the Discussion Document is intended to assist Council to confirm the issues and the appropriate options to address them. On this basis, Council will move forward to preparing new provisions for the District Plan. These provisions are required to be publicly notified under the statutory processes set down by the Resource Management Act (1991).

A public display has been set up at the Trade Start office in the Centre City Plaza 132-164 High St, where you are able to view additional information about the review.  You can come and see the display 8am to 3pm, Monday to Friday from 12th February to 6th March 2009.

A series of public open days are being held too at the Trade Start office:
