Ava to Barber Grove Wastewater Pipeline
Work has commenced on a $2.2M contract to construct a 600mm diameter 1,200 metre pipeline across the Ava rail bridge and down the eastern bank of the Hutt River. The new pipeline will provide a second crossing to the Hutt River if anything should go wrong with the existing crossing on the Estuary Bridge. The new link will also increase network capacity to minimise overflows during extreme wet weather.
Construction started in October 2007 and will last approximately 8 months. The work includes jacking a pipe under the rail line and construction of a causeway in the Hutt River to allow crane access to lift the new pipes onto the rail bridge.
The construction work has been timed to coordinate with stop-bank upgrade works by Greater Wellington Regional Council.
