Petone Residents Parking Zone

Hutt City Council is proposing to introduce a Residents Parking Zone in the streets surrounding the Wellington Institute of Technology (Weltec) in Petone.

Subject to the conditions set by the Council, residents living in the following streets will be entitled to apply for a permit:

  • Britannia Street
  • Udy Street (Britannia Street to Cuba Street)
  • Cuba Street (Udy Street to Huia Street)
  • Atiawa Street
  • Huia Street
  • Kirks Avenue
  • Kensington Avenue (Elizabeth Street to Udy Street)
  • Buick Street north of Elizabeth Street
  • Elizabeth Street

 

It is proposed to introduce the following parking spaces restricted to residents having a valid permit between the hours of 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday.

  • Britannia Street - 4 spaces on the eastern side south of Udy Street
  • Kensington Avenue - on the eastern side 4 spaces north of Atiawa Street and 2 spaces south of Atiawa Street
  • Atiawa Street - 3 spaces on the northern side and 2 spaces on the southern side of the street
  • Huia Street - 4 spaces on the northern side and 2 spaces on the southern side of the street
  • Buick Street - 2 spaces on each side of the central median leading to the Weltec entrance
  • Elizabeth Street - 8 spaces on the southern side of the street between Buick Street and Jackson Street and 4 spaces in the angle parks on the north side of Elizabeth Street east of Buick Street.

The total number of spaces to be reserved for residents is 35.  Residents with a valid permit for the Weltec Residents Parking Zone will be able to park in any of the reserved spaces within the zone.  There will no time limit restriction.

 

Subject to appropriate conditions: 

  • Two permits for eligible vehicles are permitted for eligible residents for each household at a cost of $20 per year.
  • Visitor parking permits will be available at a cost of $2 per day.
  • Permits will be provided free of charge for bonafide tradesmen, working on site.

Valid mobility parking will be permitted in the residents parking areas.

Subject to endorsement by the community, it is proposed to implement the scheme early in 2008.

Prior to that you are asked to submit any comment you may have on the response form by 16 November 2007.  Following receipt of the comments, a public meeting will be held in the area towards the end of November 2007.
