Community Resilient Structure
The structure is based on the concept of self help and mutual aid. In a major disaster, the initial response would come from those in the immediate area. Disruptions in utilities such as communications, transport and roads, may prevent outside assistance for at least 72 hours, while disruptions in power, water and gas mean that individuals will be without essential services. Individuals at home and work need to be prepared to survive without the utilities and essential services for an extended period.
After an emergency, once you have established your own safety, check on everyone in your immediate area and your neighbourhood.
Nominate someone in your area to report to the centre on the local situation and damage.
If help is needed, or you are able to give help, report to your nearest Civil Defence Centre. There are Civil Defence Centres throughout the Hutt Valley. Each centre is equipped with radio communications to the Hutt Valley Emergency Operations Centre.
