Storing Your Kit

Store your Emergency Survival Kit in strong waterproof containers in an easily accessible, safe place, such as a hall cupboard. Discourage everyday use of items such as the radio and torch. Organise a regular timetable for testing and renewing the batteries.

Emergency Food

You and your family will require enough food to last at least 72 hours after a major disaster. Although you are likely to have some food supplies anyway, it is still wise to ensure you have a separate "emergency supply". Simply have a separate store and record the date to indicate when it should be replaced or buy extra food when you can and rotate emergency stocks with your normal stocks. Store non perishable food and avoid foods that have to be cooked unless you have a portable cooker or barbecue.
