Environmental Sustainability Grant 2009-2010

Purpose
This funding scheme is for projects that support and/or increase Environmental Sustainability in the Hutt City community. Project outcomes should be consistent with the objectives outlined in the Hutt City Environmental Sustainability Strategy and the Hutt Valley Waste Minimisation Plan.
Fund Priorities
Funding Outcome One – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Coming up with good ideas to reduce the amount of solid waste going to landfill is a key focus for this grant. Projects should build capacity and/or develop novel methods for reducing, reusing or recycling materials from the waste stream.
Funding Outcome Two – Community Action for a Sustainable Hutt City
This funding stream will support activities that educate, engage and activate Hutt City citizens to undertake ‘green’ activities that will help achieve the goals in our Sustainability Strategy.
Who can apply?
Community groups, educational institutes and businesses may apply for this grant.
Fund Criteria?
- The activity must be non-profit making and primarily benefit the community of Hutt City.
- You can seek funding for a discrete project, new initiative or pilot. All projects must be completed by 30th June 2010.
- You can apply for any items (both capital and operational) that you think are needed to make your undertaking successful. See below for a list of things that will not be funded.
- You or your organisation must demonstrate your contribution to the project, this could be in the form of volunteer hours for example.
- Funding is up to a maximum of $10,000
Application assessment
Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:
- The degree to which the project will help achieve the targets in the Environmental Sustainability Strategy and/or the Waste Minimisation Plan
- The degree to which the project meets one or both of the fund priorities
- The track-record of achievement of the applicant or project officer
- Organisations contribution towards the project.
- Demonstrated planning in the form of a satisfactory project plan, timeline, budget, quotes, etc
- Likelihood that the project with achieve the desired outcomes .
Not funded:
- Work that requires a building or resource consent, archaeological authority or other statutory consent or permit, unless these have been issued before funding is allocated.
- Activities resulting in personal or commercial profit.
- Projects on Hutt City Council land (please contact us to discuss if you have identified a project of this type).
- Purchases made before the funding is granted.
Conditions
Grants will be offered to successful applicants after the assessment panel has considered applications. These grants will be made on acceptance of terms and conditions in the funding agreement.
General Funding Requirements
- Following the signing of the funding agreement, the money will be paid on receipt of an invoice.
- A report is due at the end of the contract period, which details what the project has achieved and outlines the income and expenses related to the project (receipts and bank statements will be required).
