Neighbourhood Issues
The Council aims to provide an environment that is safe and enjoyable for its residents and visitors.
There are many issues that can affect you or your neighbours on a day-to-day basis. Residents have a responsibility to limit the 'nuisances' caused to neighbours by such things as noise, odour and smoke. The use and disposal of dangerous goods such as LPG cylinders and paint must also be carefully controlled.
Likewise, buildings and structures must be safe and used for appropriate purposes. For this reason, building and resource consents are required.
Local bylaws give the Council the authority to inspect instances of nuisance and danger. The Council can and does take action to ensure that the occurrence is correction to their satisfaction.
If you are being annoyed by excessive noise, you can contact a Hutt City Council Noise Control Officer on (04) 570-6666.
