Dogs cannot be exercised on sports surfaces, playground areas or Percy's Scenic Reserve or Mitchell Park Rose Gardens. There are seasonal (Summer/Winter) restrictions on dog walking hours at some beaches.
Mountain bikes must not be used on the Rata Street Loop Track. All other tracks managed by the Hutt City Council are available to mountain bikers. NOTE: There are mountain bike restrictions on some tracks in the Belmont Regional Park and East Harbour Regional Park. Contact Greater Wellington Regional Council ph: 384-5708.
The Eastbourne Forest Rangers are volunteers interested in recreation and conservation aspects of the bush surrounding the Eastern Bays. Their efforts mainly focus on track maintenance and marking. Fire breaks run across the main ridges of Eastern Hills and the northern ridges surrounding Wainuiomata. The fire breaks are wide, clay tracks. They are very steep and rutted in places. Walkers, runners, mountain bikers and horse riders are welcome to use the fire breaks. Access to motorised vehicles is restricted to authorised vehicles only. Trail bikes and recreational four wheel drive vehicles are prohibited from using the fire breaks at all times of the year. The firebreaks are exposed and lack shade. Walkers and cyclists should be well prepared when utilising the tracks.
