If you still have waste left after you've reduced, reused and recycled, here's what to do with it. Rubbish is collected once a week on the same morning as your recycling.

Make sure your rubbish is out on the kerbside by 7.30am on collection day.

Use the Right Rubbish Bags

You must use an official Hutt City Council rubbish bag - otherwise it won't be collected. That's because the price of the bags covers the cost of collection and landfill disposal. These costs are not included in your rates. The total weight of your rubbish bag must be less than 15kg.

SAM's Tip

It's very important to securely wrap all sharp objects such as broken glass, in newspaper, before you put them in the rubbish bag. Otherwise they could injure the rubbish collector.
