To Leisure Active Home page

Leisure Active is a business unit of Hutt City Council and is responsible for the management of the city's aquatic facilities and the provision of recreation and leisure opportunities in the city. We are based at the new Pelorus Trust SportsHouse in Hutt Park, Seaview.  

 

Children's & Youth Programmes

Each school holidays a number of programmes are run to cater for children aged 5-14 years old. Children participate in a number of recreational activities around the region on a day by day basis. Activities includes arts, sports, movies and swimming options. 

Leisure Active also runs a "Push Play In the Park" Programme for children aged 5 -10 yrs over the summer school holidays.  

Swimming Pools

Leisure Active operates six swimming pools located throughout Hutt City. These include three indoor pools - Huia, Naenae and Stokes Valley; and three outdoor pools - Eastbourne, McKenzie (Petone) and Wainuiomta (open between November and March each year).

Leisure Active also offers a consultancy service covering all aspects of aquatics, from swimming pool maintenance and programmes to delivery of services.

Swim City

Swim City® is the provider of our award winning Learn to Swim programmes. The Swim City team is based at Huia Indoor Pool, Huia Street, Lower Hutt, 5010 and can be contacted on (04) 567 0043.

Hall Hire

Leisure Active, Hutt City Council provides two civic halls and a performing arts theatre in the centre of Hutt City as well as 7 community halls in the wider Hutt City area. Whatever your requirement - whether it be a place to meet, community activity space, social function venue, theatre space, or a place to hold a wedding reception - there is a hall for you.

Events

Leisure Active run a number of community events each year. Most events are free and are held in the parks and reserve areas around Hutt City. 

Annual events managed by Leisure Active include:

  • Hutt City Triathlon - November
  • ZM Women's Run/Swim - November
  • Bike the Trail - March Lower Hutt 
  • Bike Pencarrow - April
  • Petone Winter Carnival - July 

Seniors Recreation Programme & Get Going

Leisure Active runs various bus trips each month for over 50's. These trips go to many varied and interesting locations. Examples of previous trips include garden tours, museum visits, concerts and shows, movies and much more! 

Get Going is a quarterly brochure which outlines the bus trips and provides information on various physical activity classes and groups opperating in Hutt City, designed to keep older people active.

The brochure can be picked up from any Hutt City Council library, swimming pool or can be mailed directly to you for $5 per year.

Event Funding

Leisure Active endeavour to help community groups with event planning and promotion through various means.

Leisure Active manage two events funding schemes - the Community Events Fund for local events and the Major Events Fund for major events. An advisory service is available to help groups setting up recreation events and activities.

4 Signboards next to prominent Hutt City roads are available for hire. Please call (04) 560 0311 for enquiries.
