Hutt City Council

Environmental Water Quality

Hutt City Council provides a recreational beach water quality monitoring and pollution incident response service to help in safeguard the health of the community and protect the environment.

Beach water quality is tested at popular harbour swimming beaches within the City. A response service, in conjunction with the Wellington Regional Council, is provided for pollution incidents.

Hutt City works to proactively prevent pollution through education and advice to industry and the community.

You can help protect our environment by doing the following:

  • Ensuring that you Reduce, Reuse and Recycle products/materials
  • Purchasing environmentally friendly products
  • Disposing of any waste in an environmentally friendly manner
  • Not disposing of liquid waste into the stormwater drainage system. Any waste in the stormwater system will eventually end up in our streams, rivers or the sea, (stormwater pipes are connected the waterways).
  • Contacting us if you are unsure as to the best way to dispose of wastes
By taking these precautions you can help to minimise future costs to ratepayers.
