Did you know?
There are 8,318 registered dogs in Hutt City. Assume each defecates twice a day = 16,636 droppings a day. Total for the year = 6,072,140. Assume that only 20% of dog owners DO NOT pick up and dispose of the dropping safely. Then at a conservative guess, a total of 1,214,428 droppings will likely end up polluting the environment, either on land or in a watercourse.
Note that unregistered dogs are not included in this calculation!

Pooper-scoopers Reviewed:
Let's face it, the easiest way to pick up pooh is to have a plastic bag turned inside out to protect your hand, pick it up, turn the bag rightside out leaving the pooh inside and tie. However, if you do not like the idea of picking up pooh, have a look at "Pooper Scooper," available from Archytype Design & Marketing, PO Box 150, Whangamata, fax 07 865 9321, mobile 025 999 396. The scooper is made from plastic or card, and fits in your pocket. Fit plastic bag and scoop. Works best on hard surfaces.

Many people observe dog owners not tidying up after their dogs. For those of you who observe this unhealthy behaviour and don't know what to say, here is a selection of one-liners you may wish to try
- Don't be a party pooper, use your pooper scooper.
- Thou gualling, weak-hinged vassal, uplift thy foul shyte forthwithe.
- Does your dog know any other tricks?
- Do you prefer Countdown or Foodtown bags?
- Bonus! If you pick it up now you'll keep your hands warm
- May the diseases you inflict upon others be visited upon YOU.
- May I please do the same on YOUR doorstep??
- May you walk on the poop of 500 Great Danes.
Hutt City By-law: The Hutt City Dog Control Bylaws require that your dog's droppings be removed and safely disposed of.
Dog pooh bags are available free of charge to all dog owners from all Council Service Centres and libraries, and at the Animal Services Centre, 21 Meachen Street, Seaview. These are provided by Animal Services for dog owners to assist with the picking up of dog droppings. Normal rubbish bins may be used for the disposal of dog droppings.
