This is one dog that we kept weeks longer than we were meant to… She isn’t exactly a beauty, but she definitely has good brains. Eventually a lady who works for council took her only to find out she was allergic to dogs…. So after trying Wellington SPCA again, they made room for her and after only a few days she had an adoption pending. So months later she eventually got what she wanted!

Brina is now having a happy time, living at Waitarere Beach.

‘Coda’ was in a similar situation to Tobi, where after being impounded several times and his owner not having adequate fencing for a dog his size, his owner decided to surrender him. Generally we find it very difficult to rehome large breed dogs- but we were very lucky with Coda as a couple came in search of a Rottweiler. They ended up getting half a Rottweiler and half a Bull Mastiff!

‘Dixi’ came from good pig hunting dog stock, but for one reason or another, she ended up at our kennels. After a somewhat lengthy stay, she was rehomed by a lovely lady named Sam, who informs us that Dixi is working hard at keeping down the rabbit population on her lifestyle block in Featherston!

‘GG’ was surrendered to us by her previous owners as they could no longer afford to care for her. Once very skinny, “GG” has blossomed in her new home, and once very underweight, she now weighs a hefty but healthy 25Kgs!

Surprisingly, not all unclaimed dogs are of mixed breeds. This Siberian Husky now has a new rural life in Te Puke. Breed clubs often have contacts who are fans of the breed but would still rather rescue a dog. This way they can do both!

‘Manu’ is just one of many roaming dogs that don’t get claimed. He was underweight and scraggly, but being such a lovely little dog, we knew someone would fall in love with him. His new owners sent us this photo of him a couple of months later- and sure enough, they love him to bits!

Pepper now has a brand new home and is very happy.

Pheobe is now living happily lying in front of the fire, and has a new lease of life.making new friends with her new owner

‘Pyper’ was surrendered to us by her owner who could no longer keep her. After a lengthy stay at our kennels she now lives on a lifestyle block where she has all the room she could have only dreamt of!

‘Sydney’ was signed over to us as she was the only pup in her litter that didn’t find a home. She was such a sweet dog but we couldn’t get her home due to lack of people interested in larger breed dogs (she is 5 months old here) We contacted the Kapiti shelter of Wellington SPCA and they agreed to take her. Luckily for Sydney, she was adopted within a week by some lovely people in Levin who have a two acre property for her to run around on.

Ironically renamed ‘Tiny’, Tiny came to us as a VERY hyperactive two year old. His previous owner had moved overseas and given him to his father to look after – who worked very long hours and didn’t have the time to spend with him, and resulted in Tiny being tied up all day. He did the right thing by Tiny and signed him over to us. His new owners have done an excellent job with Tiny – who has passed his obedience training and shares his home with the newest member of the family – a rescued Greyhound.

After ‘Tobi’ a Golden Retriever was impounded one too many times, his owner decided that she could no longer care for him so surrendered him to us. We had no one for Tobi at the time so we called the Kapiti branch of Wellington SPCA and they agreed to take him in. He has now found a new home.
