Paying Your Hutt City and Greater Wellington Rates

You will need your account number which you will find under the property details on your instalment notice. 

Payments can be made using Visa or MasterCard credit cards

Convenience Fee

It is important to note that the service provider charges you a convenience fee of 2.1% of your payment amounts with a minimum fee of $3.50.  This fee is not charged by Council but is a charge made by the Council's service provider. 

This service is provided by Westpac New Zealand Ltd in agreement with Hutt City Council.

Hutt City Council does not receive any part of the online convenience fee.

If you do not wish to pay the convenience fee, please make your payment using one of the alternative payment methods.

 

Direct Debit

Direct debit facilities can be arranged to allow regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly deductions of agreed amounts, as well as the two monthly instalment option. These amounts can be automatically adjusted for you each time your rates change, without the need to visit your bank. Each time you receive a rate account it will show the amount and date of agreed deductions in that period.

If you wish to initiate a direct debit authority, click here to bring up the form, print it off, complete and sign it and either drop it off at Council's main Administration Building, 30 Laings Road, Lower Hutt or send it to:

In Person

Rates can be paid in person at the Council's main Administration Building in Laings Road, Lower Hutt or at any New Zealand Post outlet

All locations can accept payment by EFTPOS (excluding credit card), as well as by cash or cheque. If paying at a Post Shop, please ensure you take your rates invoice with you.

By Mail

Each rate assessment is mailed out in a reusable envelope which can be used to post cheque payments in. Please also enclose the remittance advice to ensure your payment is correctly identified. No cash should be posted.

Automatic Payment

If you pay your rates by automatic payment, it is your responsibility to ensure that the payments are adequate to clear the amount of your rates by each due date or a penalty will be applied.

Greater Wellington Regional Council Rates

Hutt City Council collects rates on behalf of the Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC). These rates are set and levied by the GWRC. Further information on GWRC rates may be obtained by contacting GWRC offices at 142-146 Wakefield Street, Wellington, or from the GWRC website.

GWRC rates cover:

General Comprising a wide range of activities of GWRC, including planning, resource management, civil defence, harbours and recreation. These costs are shared between districts in the Wellington region on the basis of equalised capital values.
Transport Hutt City's share reflects the net cost of contracted bus and rail services, total mobility and transport infrastructure provided to residents of the city.
EDA This rate funds the Greater Wellington regional economic development agency.
Rivers Management The local contribution to the cost of river maintenance and flood protection works in Hutt City.
Stadium The cost of servicing the GWRC's $25 million contribution for the construction and development of the Regional Stadium.
