The Civic Awards are a way of acknowledging people who have contributed their time and energy to voluntary services benefiting residents or organisations in Hutt City.
The Awards are an opportunity to highlight the nominees' strengths and achievements. It is a chance to demonstrate to the wider community the hard work and dedication of those who contribute their voluntary service to the community.
Those receiving awards are from all spheres of the community. The service being recognised includes community service, cultural affairs, educational services, recreation, social welfare or youth activities.
The Civic Honours Award for Voluntary Community Service was established in 1976 and celebrated their 25th Anniversary in 2001.

Introduced in 2004 the Youth Services Award recognises young people between the ages of 15 and 25 who have carried out outstanding voluntary community service. The emphasis will be on the degree to which the young person has been actively engaged in their community.

Recipients are students selected by the colleges and high schools from high academic achievers in Year-13.
The award ceremony usually takes place in December each year.
