Local Government and DHB Elections 2007

Introduction

The 2007 Local Authority Elections will be held in September/October with Election day being 13 October 2007. This page provides a snapshot of key information for these Elections

Elections to be held for:

  • Hutt City Council – The mayor (city wide) & 12 councillors (from 6 wards)
  • Eastbourne Community Board – 5 members
  • Petone Community Board – 6 members
  • Wainuiomata Community Board – 6 members
  • Wellington Regional Council (Lower Hutt Constituency) – 3 members
  • Hutt Valley District Health Board – 7 members

 

Key Election Dates

  • 27 July 2007 - Nominations opened/Electoral roll opened for inspection at Council’s libraries and the service centre at 30 Laings Road
  • 24 August 2007 - Nominations close at 12 noon/Electoral roll closes
  • 21-26 Sept 2007 - Voting papers posted out to electors
  • 13 October 2007 - Election day - voting closes at 12.00 noon

 

Electoral Officer

Council has appointed Stuart Duncan, one of Council’s senior managers, as the Electoral Officer to run the elections.  The Electoral Officer is solely responsible for the conduct of the election and is not subject to the directions of any local authority in carrying out his duties.  Bruce Hodgins has been appointed as the Deputy Electoral Officer.

Candidates

To be eligible to stand for election you need to be enrolled as a parliamentary elector and be a New Zealand Citizen.

Election 2007 Results

In accordance with section 86 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, I hereby declare the results for the following elections held on Saturday 13 October 2007.

Voting

To be eligible to vote you need to be 18 years of age and enrolled as a parliamentary elector.

The Electoral System

There are two electoral systems that may be used in local authority elections. The two systems are FPP (First Past the Post) and STV (Single Transferable Vote).

For the 2007 local authority elections, FPP will be used for all election issues in Hutt City with the exception of the Hutt Valley District Health Board election which will be under STV.
