About the Mayor

David Ogden was elected as mayor of Hutt City in October 2004, becoming the 20th person to occupy the office of mayor since 1891.  This is his second term having been re-elected in 2007.

Mr Ogden came to office as mayor with extensive experience in local body politics. He was a Hutt City Councillor for nine years and has served a term as a Wellington Regional Councillor.

In addition, Mr Ogden is a member of the Hutt Valley District Health Board and a trustee of the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust. Prior to that, he was chairman of the Hutt Mana Energy Trust.

Mr Ogden was born in Wellington in 1944, attending Miramar North School and Wellington High School. He went on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant.

In 1969 Mr Ogden moved to the Hutt Valley. During his accountancy career he has been a corporate treasurer and financial controller. Most recently, he has run his own accounting practice.

In his spare time Mr Ogden is a keen follower of sport, particularly the Hurricanes and Phoenix FC. As a youngster he played soccer and softball. These days he enjoys running, tramping and cycling.

Other interests include developing his sense of humour, home renovating, travel, movies and music - especially Dire Straits.

A strong sense of community mindedness has seen Mr Ogden involved with numerous church, school, sporting and cultural groups. He is a Justice of the Peace.

Mr Ogden is married to Teresa and lives in Woburn. He has three adult children.
