Hutt City Community Committees appointed

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Hutt City Council today announced the members appointed to the new North/East and Central/West Community Committees.

Mayor David Ogden says the new committees will improve the Council’s linkages with those parts of the city without community boards.

“They will engage with their communities on Council’s behalf and support the existing residents associations and similar community groups in their area and facilitate their engagement with Council in a positive way.  This will include working with these smaller established organisations to identify priorities for each area and develop local Community Plans.

“I would like to thank those that expressed an interest in becoming a community committee member.  There was a good level of interest and a number of quality applicants.

“The people we have selected bring an impressive range of knowledge, skills and experience to their positions.  There is a healthy mix of new and familiar faces and I am confident that the communities will be well served by them,” says Mayor Ogden.

Expressions of interest for the committees were called in January, with interviews conducted by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and ward councillors on 3-4 March with recommendations made to a meeting of the full council for a final decision.

Both committees comprise five members appointed from the communities throughout the two wards, along with the four councillors for those wards.

The election of a Chair and Deputy Chair for each committee will take place at the first meeting.

Membership of the committees is:
