Wellington Vintage Car Club

Monday, November 05, 2007

Good afternoon.

It gives me pleasure to welcome the Wellington branch of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand to TheNewDowse and Lower Hutt – it’s lovely to have you and your wonderful cars here in our beautiful city.

I want to acknowledge your Patron Lady Vera Southward and Chairman Tony Reid, and offer my congratulations to everyone involved in organising today’s rally.

I extend to the club my best wishes as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.  The re-enactment of the first rally from Upper Hutt to Lower Hutt that launched the club is a great way to mark the occasion and I thank you for inviting me to be part of it.

To see such a large collection of vintage cars in one place is something quite special, and offers a rare opportunity for the people of Hutt City to get a closer look at the design, look, sound and feel of the cars.

And that’s what makes this more than just a car rally.  It's also about bringing the community together and for the club to celebrate the many friendships that are fostered through a shared love of vintage cars.

It is testament to this that the Wellington Vintage Car Club remains strong and active after 50 years, and promises to be so for many years to come.

Again, I welcome the club to Lower Hutt and wish you all a safe journey home.

Thank you.
