I'm excited to be here for this an inspirational showcase of art and fashion.
It highlights the abundance of young talent here in Hutt City – perhaps a future Karen Walker or Trelise Cooper?
The outfits are fantastic and it is clear that a huge amount of work has gone into creating them.
Hutt City Council is proud to be a supporter of the awards, sponsoring the Trash and Treasure section.
None of this would have been possible had it not been for a special group of students from Wainuiomata High School.
They organised these awards upon hearing the World of Wearable Arts for Schools had been cancelled, and haven’t they done a fantastic job?
Their courage, commitment, passion and work ethic – their refusal to give up – is to be admired and, I hope, be an inspiration for others to follow.
It now gives me pleasure to ask Hayley Collins and Staci Allen to come forward on behalf of Wainuiomata High School to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from Hutt City Council in recognition of their efforts.
Please give a round of applause to Hayley, Staci and Wainuiomata High School!
I also want to acknowledge and thank Wainuiomata High School teacher Joycelyn Reddy for putting so much effort into organising the event.
These events would not happen without the support of both teachers and parents.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to stay for the rest of the evening, but I wish everyone the best of luck and have fun!
