Getting to know the Eastern Hills
The Eastern Hills offer tramps for all ages and skill levels, ranging from a short bush walk to an all-day tramp.
Once ravaged by fire, the hills are changing from gorse yellow to native green. On a good day you can see right across the entire Hutt Valley from the ECNZ track, as far as the peaks of the Seaward Kaikouras.
Some of the tracks are managed by us, and some by the Greater Wellington Regional Council. Some tracks cross private land and we’re extremely grateful to the owners for sharing their property with us all.
The Wainuiomata Trail Park is part of the Eastern Hills – a great destination for walking, running and mountain biking.
The Eastern Hills tracks stretch from the Bus Barn in Eastbourne to Upper Hutt.
Walking tracks have access points at regular intervals along the Eastern Hills and provide links to Wainuiomata, Upper Hutt and Eastbourne. The ECNZ track provides the backbone of the walking track system and most tracks start or finish on the ECNZ Track.
