WHO uses our local community halls, do they provide the services people want, how should they be managed, and what should they look like?
These are the kinds of questions Hutt City Council needs answered by residents as part of a review of community halls.
The city has 14 halls, all of which can be hired. Local trusts manage some of them, and the council manages others.
“There might be better ways of managing the halls,” says Leisure Active Manager Marcus Sherwood, who is heading the review. “We might need to look at how we could increase the services currently available.
“We need to know whether the halls are good value for money to the community – for example, are they providing the services our residents want, are they accessible – and most importantly, are they being well utilised?”
Over the next four weeks the council is seeking public submissions on specific halls. They are Kensington Hall, Moera Hall, Wainuiomata Hall, Epuni Hall, Maungaraki Hall, Belmont Hall, Hardwick Smith Lounge, Avalon Pavilion, Naenae Hall, Treadwell St Hall, Taita Hall, Pomare Senior Citizen’s Hall and Stokes Valley Hall.
Submission forms are available from community libraries or from Luisa Keating (ph: 570-6997). The council will also be making presentations to community boards and committees during February.
