Excitement building in the lead up to new Kids Festival

Friday, June 05, 2009

Thousands of Hutt City children are excitedly gearing up for the city’s inaugural children’s festival, Kaleidoscope KidsFest, which kicks off on 6 July.

Over 15 local community organisations and businesses have signed up to take part in the festival in 2009 by coordinating events for children to attend.  It is hoped that the number of groups participating will grow each year.

Children have over twenty different events to choose from across the two-week school holiday period.  There is a great range of activities on offer including art and craft workshops, sports, dance classes and even an opportunity to learn about being a fire-fighter.

To help the decision making process, events are grouped under the headings of Arts, Crafts & Creativity, Knowledge & Discovery and Sports, Games, Dance & Entertainment.  Most are free or low-cost, so children can maximise their holiday fun.

The Kaleidoscope KidsFest is coordinated by Leisure Active, Hutt City Council who are administering and publicising the festival, as well as coordinating some of the events.

It is hoped that every child aged 7 to 12 will get their own copy to read and choose what they’d like to do.  Programmes will be distributed via primary schools, but will also be available at Council facilities such as libraries, swimming pools, museums and the Hutt City i-Site.  Alternatively the programme will be available shortly online at www.huttcity.govt.nz/kidsfest.
