City Infrastructure General Manager Bruce Sherlock announced today that Hutt City Council has completed a remote controlled camera inspection of the main outfall pipeline to ensure all leaks are identified and fixed before the pipeline is re-pressurised. The inspection found two additional leaks.
“Two of the seven leaks have been fixed. The remaining leaks are being repaired using a new internal joint seal technique. This allows us to reseal the leaks from inside the pipeline, meaning minimal disruption to Eastern Bays residents and visitors. The new seals have been manufactured to our specifications overseas and will be delivered this week. We expect the repairs to be complete early next month.
“Initial investigations into the cause of the pipeline failures indicate that an equipment malfunction led to a short pressure surge that dislodged the rubber ring joints. We are making changes to prevent any similar problem occurring in the future.”
