Celebrating our differences, solidarity, and keeping Hutt City beautiful were the values captured in the winning entries of the ‘What do you value about Hutt City photo competition’.
An image of friends from different ethnic backgrounds was an expression of cultural diversity, a lone fisherman battling the elements a message of solidarity and the simplicity of a spring flower in bloom showed the value of Hutt City’s gardens.
Mayor David Ogden announced the winners, decided by public vote, at the ‘Celebrating Values’ event in the Town Hall on Wednesday night. They were as follows:
0-11 years - Olivia Cornille – ‘Flowers everywhere’
12-24 years - Brian Ng – ‘Solidarity’
25 years + - Rosemary Eijgenraam – ‘Celebrating our differences’
The winners each received a digital camera kindly donated by Harvey Norman.
Mayor Ogden hailed the photo competition as a success.
“The photos we received were outstanding and it is clear people put a lot of thought into what they value about our city.
“The winning entries captured Hutt City’s ethnic diversity and outdoors lifestyle.
“Congratulations to the winners and everyone who entered the competition,” he said.
All entries are on display in an exhibition at the Hutt City Baptist Church, 132-146 High Street, until Wednesday, October 14.
