Plans and records held by council

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

IF YOU are remodelling a kitchen or bathroom and want to move your kitchen sink, change your bath for a shower, put in an Infinity hot water system or put in a dishwasher for the first time, you will need to move pipes.

If that’s what you are planning, you will need a Building Consent – and remember you cannot start your project until your Building Consent has been issued and is on site (where the work is being done).

Plans will be required for your proposed alterations and you will need to show the existing water, stormwater and wastewater pipes, as well as the proposed connections.

The Engineering Records Team at Hutt City Council holds plans of services (water, stormwater and wastewater) up to the boundary of your property only.  If you need details of services inside your property, the Consents Counter staff might be able to provide the information, if they have a record of it, or it is shown on previous building consents or permits that have been issued, but there is no guarantee that they have this information.

Drainage Plans are provided to our customers free of charge if they are available.

If you want drainage records for existing or former state houses, requests for drainage plans and house plans are to be made through the Housing New Zealand Corporation website at: http://www.hnzc.co.nz/hnzc/web/research-&-policy/our-archives/request-information.htm  or by calling the National Contact Centre on freephone 0800 801-601.

Water pipes and tobies

Capacity operates and manages the water supply system delivering water to homes and businesses in Hutt City.

Its chosen subcontractors repair and renew water pipes. The point of supply for water pipes is the shut-off valve (toby) which is usually at or close to the street boundary of the property.

Capacity is responsible for maintaining the water supply system up to and including the point of supply (toby). Property owners are responsible for their private water supply system, which includes all water supplies, plumbing fittings and pipe work on the property side of the point of supply.

If you are unsure about the location of your property’s water toby, contact Hutt City Council and request a toby location – the service is free.
