The central shopping district of Lower Hutt is to get a major facelift in a project due to start in the middle of March.
It's wasp season. Queens start making their new nest in October and wasp populations reach their peak between January and April.
The council is currently working on a Heritage Review Project, which will do a stocktake of heritage buildings and form policy for the preservation of buildings considered worthy or heritage.
SECTIONS of Wainuiomata Hill Road will be receiving special attention during the next few weeks to ensure the roadway is in tip-top condition.

Hutt City Council adds fluoride to most water supplies in the city.
A PUBLIC health warning has been issued by Hutt City Council for Te Mome stream near the Jackson Street/Hardham Crescent flats and Waione Street in Petone.
POCKET ashtrays being distributed throughout Hutt City are helping to keep harmful cigarette butts off the streets and footpaths, and out of the city’s waterways.
The council’s private sewer drain upgrade project in the Leighton Avenue catchment (Waiwhetu/Waterloo) is starting to pay dividends, with a significant reduction in sewer flows during heavy rainfall.
WORK on the Dowse to Petone upgrade project means some traffic will soon be controlled temporarily by traffic signals.
