Hutt City Council Road Safety Coordinator is reminding people of the two second rule in a campaign which hopes to reduce the amount of rear-end and obstruction crashes in Lower Hutt.
Crash statistics show that Rear-End/Obstruction type crashes are the most common type of crashes to occur in Lower Hutt (30% of all crashes from 2004-2008). These can occur anywhere but most commonly on the approach to intersections and pedestrians crossings.
The easiest way to reduce your chance of having a crash is to follow the two second rule:
Says Anna Blomquist, Hutt City Council Road Safety Coordinator, the distance should be increased to four seconds during poor weather or when towing a trailer. “Its important to be aware of what the vehicle in front of you is doing, of what they may be responding to as well.”
