Hutt City Council

2006 Hutt City Demographic Profile

The demographic profile provides statistics and a description of the key population characteristics on Census Night 2006 (Tuesday March 7, 2006). The information is based on the 2006 Census of Population and Dwellings using data supplied by Statistics New Zealand.

There is information on the people that live here including their age, ethnicity, employment, income, their homes, and more. The demographics of the area can be useful to a wide range of people and organisations; from individuals and community groups, right through to businesses trying to identify their potential market, and service providers.

For instance the usually resident population of Hutt City is 97,701 and there are 35,649 occupied dwellings in the City. The demographic profile also provides data down to the 43 Statistics New Zealand Area Units in the City. The land area of Lower Hutt is 380 square kilometres. All of the City's suburbs are either grouped into an Area Unit or multiple Area Units. Totals are also included for the other Cities in the Wellington Region and a national total to allow for comparisons to be made.
