We play a leading role in promoting a low carbon footprint city, energy efficiency, walking and cycling, public transport and landfill management.
Sustainability and environmental protection are key components of our policies, plans and strategies.
Sustainability is complex
There are many ways we can futureproof ourselves as an organisation, and think ahead to the future of our region and its ecology. As a Council, we've adopted a model where we focus on some key issues, and give ourselves a goal to work towards that relates to what we consider are main focus areas for our region.
We adopted an Environmental Sustainability Strategy that extends out to 2045. In it, we identify major environmental sustainability issues for the city and develop actions to tackle these issues.
Many of the choices we make that are environmentally conscious also help us to build our city's economic and social resilience. So it makes sense for us to think about environmental sustainability when we plan our major projects or look for ways to serve ratepayers more efficiently.
