Our ISO14401 certification
In 1996 Hutt City Council was the first local New Zealand council to obtain the international environmental management ISO9001 accreditation across all operational areas and the first council to receive the EnviromarkNZ Gold certification.
We currently operate to ISO14001:2014 standard. This accreditation addresses environmental and legal issues, helps organisations like us to manage the impact of our operations on the environment and helps us reduce the environmental risk of our processes and products. There's a strong focus on improvement throughout the standard; we also benefit by reducing our costs and saving precious resources.
The accreditation recognises our proactive approach towards environmental sustainability and compliance with environmental laws and regulations. It gives us a framework for a wide range of initiatives and projects that help reduce the environmental impact of our operations.
As a result of this process, we've got a number of initiatives underway to improve our environmental performance. These include energy conservation measures at our facilities, reviewing how we use our work vehicles, and supporting our people at Council to make positive changes at work.
