Hutt City Council has worked with our sponsor McDonald’s Lower Hutt since 2012 to plant fruit trees in local schools. 32 schools have benefitted since then, with 576 fruit trees planted.
We receive up to nine fruit trees and nine feijoa bushes at a time from our sponsor; Hutt City Council then helps to site, plant and shelter the trees.
How much does it cost?
The fruit trees are supplied for free through McDonald’s sponsorship. We supply planting materials like compost, mulch, stakes, and protection from impact.
You will need to supply the manpower (digging holes for planting etc) and take care of the maintenance of the trees (watering, pruning) on an on-going basis.
