Innovative Young Minds (IYM) is designed to attract and engage young women to the field of technology. Targeted at Year 11 and Year 12 students, IYM is a week-long residential programme.
It’s well known that diversity in the workplace leads to more innovation. Women are under-represented in the STEMM sector; Hutt Science (a Hutt City Council initiative), Rotary Hutt City and Hutt Valley High School want to change that. We want to inspire, open pathways to possibilities and show that the impossible is possible!
Our 2017 programme
The 2017 IYM programme ran from 9-14 July. Students stayed at the Silverstream Retreat, Lower Hutt and travelled each day to a variety of technology businesses, Crown Research Institutes and Tertiary Education Providers in the Wellington region.
Participants experienced a range of technologies through hands-on activities and witnessed innovation they never thought possible.
They heard stories of inspiration from other women who have built careers and businesses working in the technology and innovation sector. They mixed with a wide range of women from a cross-section of business sectors who think outside the square, who apply their creativity to innovate and who are passionate about science and technology.
