Chris was born in Lower Hutt and graduated from Otago University with an LLB and a BComm. He worked for Ernst & Young in Wellington and then for HSBC in London and New York and for the Royal Bank of Canada in London and Toronto. On return to NZ he co-authored an environmental law textbook and lectured in corporate finance. For eight years from 1996 he was Chief of Staff for Hon Richard Prebble MP. In 2004 he became a Hutt City Councillor and set up a business consultancy, specialising in technology for business productivity.
He is currently a shareholder and director of Kaynemaile Ltd, a manufacturer of polycarbonate architectural mesh, exported to over 20 countries. He’s also a director and shareholder in Martinez Ltd, a manufacturer of fine Spanish chorizo.
Chris is chair of Nikau Foundation, Wellington’s community foundation, Chair of Technology Valley, and a trustee of Nga Manu Nature Reserve on the Kapiti Coast. He is married to Jan with three children, all of whom have flown the nest and live in Auckland, Melbourne and London.
