Hutt City Council has closed Point Howard Wharf to the public to allow remedial work on the wharf to be completed.
A recent inspection of the wharf’s structure identified concerns with two piles. The wharf is inspected by engineers monthly to ensure it is safe for public use.
Council Divisional Manager Parks and Gardens, Bruce Hodgins, says public safety is Council’s first concern. He expects repair work to take about three weeks to complete.
Point Howard Wharf is earmarked for possible removal following a recent review of Lower Hutt’s four recreational wharves.
