Annual and Long Term Plans

We follow the advice of the Local Government Act, which requires us to produce and follow three kinds of plans.

These are our Long Term Plan, our Annual Plan, and our Annual Report.

Planning for the next 10 years

We prepare a 10-year Long Term Plan every three years, in consultation with the community.

The Long Term Plan describes all our major planned activities, and what those activities mean for the community and district. It enables Council to make decisions that take into account the whole region, its goals and its resources.

Our Long Term Plan provides a focus for Council's strategies. It's a place for us to put our overarching values into action. The plan is also an important way we can hold ourselves accountable to our community.

Planning for each year

We prepare an Annual Plan for each financial year that sits between our Long Term Plan review years. For example, when we updated our Long Term Plan in 2015 we didn't produce an Annual Plan for that year.

The Annual Plan is more operational: it includes our annual budget and the funding impact statement for the year, and any significant variations from the current Long Term Plan.

Our financial year runs from 1 July to 30 June.
