Dos and don’ts on the tracks
Mountain bikes
The majority of our tracks are shared use - please be considerate and slow down when passing.
Mountain bikes are not permitted on the Rata Street Loop, most of East Harbour Regional Park and some of Belmont Regional Park.
The Korokoro walking tracks and tracks in Waiwhetu's Hayward Scenic Reserve are also unsuitable for mountain bikes. Please respect the maintenance work of volunteers and don’t ride these tracks.
Walkers
Walkers/runners are not permitted to use the Beeline downhill mountain biking track at Wainuiomata Trail Park.
Vehicle access on fire breaks
What are fire breaks?
Fire breaks run across the main ridges of Eastern Hills and the northern ridges surrounding Wainuiomata. They are wide, clay tracks which are very steep and rutted in places, exposed and lacking in shade.
Who can use fire breaks?
- Walkers
- Runners
- Mountain bikers
- Horse riders
- Authorised vehicles
Walkers and cyclists should be well prepared when using these tracks.
Who can’t use fire breaks?
- Trail bikes
- Recreational four wheel drive vehicles
