Funding criteria and priorities – what we’re looking for

Your organisation can apply for funds to support some of its operating costs, including staff wages and administration costs such as phone, power, rent and volunteer expenses.

What are our priorities?

We are looking to support projects that:

  • Predominantly assist distinct communities such as elderly, Maori, Pacific Island, ethnic minority, youth, victims of crime, people with disabilities, homeless people and unemployed people
  • Engage in partnership arrangements with others for the most efficient use of resources and to prevent duplication of services

What are we looking for in an application?

We are looking to support projects that:

  • Come from not-for-profit or charitable organisations with legal status, which are authorised to receive and administer charitable funding
  • Are based in Hutt City and/or are primarily of benefit to the Hutt City community
  • Are accessible to a wide range of people or the intended user group
  • Can show how they meet at least two of the community outcomes in the Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP)

The purpose of the funding – what we will and won’t fund

Types of activities we will fund

We’ll fund activities such as:

  • Operational and administration costs
  • Salary costs for your employees
  • Volunteer expenses

Types of activities we won’t fund

We won’t fund:

  • Organisations currently receiving funding from any other council source (excluding rates rebate)
  • Individuals
  • Organisations whose primary focus is on environmental or sporting activities
  • Organisations that receive significant funding from central government, such as schools and kindergartens
  • Retrospective costs
  • Debt servicing
  • Land, building, renovation or maintenance costs
  • Capital equipment
  • Organisations that plan to redistribute funds to other recipients at their own discretion

Funding accountability and compliance – what rules apply

When you receive funding from us for any project, activity or event:

  • Funds must be used only for the purpose for which they were sought and approved, and in accordance with any terms and conditions imposed by the assessment committee
  • Funds must be used within 10 months of you being notified of your successful application
  • You need to inform the funding officer immediately if any difficulty or potential difficulties arise which may compromise the service or project
  • You need to lay a complaint with the Police if any funds are stolen or misappropriated, and then notify us
  • You need to allow an audit on the use of the funds if we decide to undertake one
  • You need to recognise our support in all publicity material, annual reports and similar publications
  • You need to provide an accountability report (which we will send you in due course) outlining the use of the funds and the benefit to the community no later than 10 months after the funds have been received
